FIRST DEFENCE:
The fish skin mucus provides a stable physical and chemical barrier against invading pathogens. In fish, the epithelial surfaces are covered by a slimy, slippery layer called the mucous. It can also be defined as a viscous colloid containing antibacterial enzymes, proteins and water, known as mucins.
DERMAX is a concentrated Aloe Vera based mucous coat enhancing product. Chlorine, poor water conditions and medications can reduce the thickness of a fish's natural mucous coat which is their first line of immune defence. This nutrient rich substance encourages mucous coat production in fish which acts as a calming agent while preventing infections.
