Description

API Wide Range pH 5.0 - 9.0

API Wide Range pH 5.0 - 9.0 is a pond pH test kit that gives pond keepers a quick, accurate reading of their water's pH, from 5.0 to 9.0. It helps you spot water that has drifted too alkaline or too acidic before it harms your fish. Each kit contains 160 tests, enough for regular monitoring of a garden pond or koi pond.

Key Benefits

  • Measures pond water pH quickly and accurately, with a reading range of 5.0 to 9.0.
  • Helps you prevent the harmful effects of pond water that is too alkaline or too acidic.
  • Highlights pH problems that can arise from minerals in tap water, high ammonia levels in the pond, rain runoff or overstocking of pond fish.
  • Includes a colour chart and easy-to-read instructions, so results are simple to interpret.
  • Gives 160 tests from a single kit.

Suitable For

  • Pond owners who want to keep an eye on pH and catch swings early.
  • Koi and pond fish keepers whose water may be affected by tap water minerals, rain runoff, ammonia build-up or a heavily stocked pond.

How to Use

Follow the instructions supplied in the kit for the full test procedure, and compare the result against the included colour chart. Two handling points matter during testing:

  • Reagent bottles: shake the indicated reagent bottles very vigorously.
  • Test tube: be gentler with the test tube. Make sure the cap is closed tight, then place a finger or thumb on top of the cap so it cannot come undone.
  • Mix the contents by inverting the test tube back and forth every 1-2 seconds for the indicated amount of time. The aim is simply to combine the contents of the tube.

Caring for and Cleaning Your Test Tube

  • Rinse the test tube with water right away once the test is complete, so the contents don't stay in the tube. This stops the reagents from sticking to the sides and staining the tube over time.
  • Run the water, open the test tube gently (do not twist the cap) and let the water dilute and rinse the contents out.
  • Avoid getting the contents of the test tube on your skin.
  • If reagent has been left in the tube for a long period and the colour is sticking, gently wash the inside with a small bottle brush and some API Safe & Easy cleaning spray.
  • Avoid soap. Residue could end up back in the water the next time you fill the tube, which could be harmful to your fish.
  • Replacement test tubes are available for purchase from online retailers if you need additional ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pH range does this test kit read?
It reads pond water pH levels from 5.0 to 9.0.

How many tests do I get?
The kit contains 160 tests.

What can cause my pond's pH to go too high or too low?
Minerals found in tap water, high ammonia levels in the pond, rain runoff and overstocking of pond fish can all push pond water too alkaline or too acidic.

How hard should I shake the test tube?
Be gentle. Close the cap tightly, hold a finger or thumb over it, and invert the tube back and forth every 1-2 seconds for the time stated in the instructions. Only the reagent bottles need very vigorous shaking.

How do I clean the test tube after testing?
Rinse it with water straight away. Open the tube gently without twisting the cap and let the water flush the contents out. For stubborn colour, use a small bottle brush and some API Safe & Easy cleaning spray.

Can I wash the test tube with soap?
No. Soap residue could be carried back into the water the next time you fill the tube, which could be harmful to your fish.
