Choose the tank around its inhabitants

Start with the adult size, swimming space and care needs of the fish or other livestock you plan to keep. Compare length, width and height as well as capacity in litres. A compact nano aquarium is not automatically suitable for every small fish, and a bowl or kit label does not establish suitability. Ask for advice before choosing livestock for a small tank.

Tank only, starter kit or cabinet package?

A tank-only purchase lets you choose equipment separately. Kits and complete systems include different components, so check the specific listing for filtration, lighting, a heater, lid, sump and cabinet rather than assuming everything is supplied. Budget for any additional aquarium filtration, aquarium lighting and other equipment your setup needs.

Freshwater, planted or marine?

Match the aquarium and equipment to the setup you intend to build. Planted freshwater aquariums need lighting suited to the plants, while marine and reef systems have different equipment requirements. Compare the selected system's specifications and leave space for maintenance and any external equipment.

Check the stand and installation space

Measure the full footprint, including the cabinet, and allow access for cables, hoses and opening the lid. Use a stand or cabinet designed to support the filled aquarium, following the manufacturer's installation instructions. Check whether the cabinet is included in the selected package.

Plan setup, collection and delivery

Prepare and cycle the aquarium before adding fish, and use suitable water test kits to check conditions. Confirm current availability and any pre-order details on the selected product. Large, heavy or sensitive items can have delivery restrictions; review our shipping and collection policy before ordering.
