Why Iron Matters in a Planted Tank

Iron takes part in many metabolic processes in plants, most importantly the synthesis of chlorophyll, the green pigment. More chlorophyll means more efficient photosynthesis. Iron deficiency is a common problem in aquariums because the iron present is often in a form plants cannot absorb well. How well iron is taken up also depends on the macronutrient and micronutrient content of the water, on pH, and on the iron itself. When iron runs short, chlorophyll disappears and chlorosis develops. This shows up as leaf yellowing and necrosis. AF Iron Boost contains a concentrated dose of easily absorbable Fe2+ iron chelate to address this.
