Getting the balance right is important, because both too little and too much nitrogen can harm plants:

• Deficiency: growth inhibition, chlorosis and yellowing of the leaves, followed by browning.
• Excess: excessive growth and dark green leaves. The plant becomes very delicate and less resistant to mechanical damage.
