Dophin Ceramic Rings 400g
Dophin Ceramic Rings are a biological filter media for aquarium filters, supplied as a 400g bag. They give beneficial bacteria a porous surface to colonise, which supports the nitrogen cycle in freshwater and saltwater set-ups. They suit hobbyists who want to boost the biological filtration in a canister, sump or hang-on filter.
Key Benefits
- Provides a surface on which beneficial bacteria can grow inside your filter.
- The porous surface lets far more beneficial bacteria establish in a contained area, so a small amount of filter space does a lot of biological work.
- Supports the nitrogen cycle by helping break down toxic ammonia into nitrite, and toxic nitrite into relatively harmless nitrate.
- Ring shape suits use as bagged media in a filter.
How the Nitrogen Cycle Works with This Media
Fish waste and decaying matter release toxic ammonia into the water. Beneficial bacteria living on the ceramic rings break this ammonia down to nitrite, and then break the toxic nitrite down into relatively harmless nitrate. Because the rings are porous, they offer a large surface area for this bacteria in a compact space.
How to Use
- Place the rings in the biological filtration stage of your filter, where water flows through the media.
- Allow time for the beneficial bacteria to colonise the porous surface after setting up.
Suitable For
- Aquarium filters that use bagged biological media.
- Aquarists looking to increase the surface area available for beneficial bacteria.
Specifications
- Type: ceramic bio rings (filter media)
- Bagged media size: 400g
What's Included
- One bag of ceramic rings, 400g
Frequently Asked Questions
What do ceramic rings do in an aquarium filter?
They provide a porous surface on which beneficial bacteria grow. These bacteria break toxic ammonia down to nitrite, and toxic nitrite down to relatively harmless nitrate.
Why is the porous surface important?
The porous surface allows far more beneficial bacteria to grow in a contained area than a smooth surface would.
Where do I put the rings in my filter?
Use them as bagged media in the biological filtration section of your filter, where water passes through them.
Do the rings remove ammonia and nitrite on their own?
No. The rings provide the surface, and the beneficial bacteria that grow on it do the work of breaking down ammonia and nitrite as part of the nitrogen cycle.
How much media comes in the bag?
The bag contains 400g of ceramic rings.
