Description

Hikari Ultimate Water Conditioner

Hikari Ultimate Water Conditioner is a full-function aquarium and pond water conditioner that handles chloramine, chlorine, ammonia, nitrite and heavy metals in a single bottle. It suits fishkeepers and pond owners setting up new systems, topping up or changing water, adding new livestock or moving fish. Hikari describes it as the world's first full-function water conditioner.

Key Benefits

  • Destroys chloramines
  • Removes ammonia and chlorine
  • Detoxifies nitrite and heavy metals, including copper
  • Adds essential electrolytes
  • Boosts alkalinity
  • Replaces the skin-slime coat
  • Reduces water-quality-induced stress
  • Instantly "ages" water. On a new setup, this lets you enjoy your pets sooner without worrying about chloramine, ammonia, chlorine, heavy metals or nitrite.
  • Can reduce the time your tank needs to cycle
  • Excellent for use when moving fish, and when shipping fish in bags
  • Developed to provide a completely safe environment for aquatic life, and to be easy to use

To be sure you are getting the original, patented ammonia-removing technology developed by John Kuhns, look for the ClorAm-X® logo and the U.S. patent number on the pack.

How to Use

Dose the conditioner to fully condition water in any of these situations:

  • New, larger aquariums or ponds
  • Before, during or after water additions
  • Before adding new fish, amphibians, invertebrates or plants

For ammonia control, use the product as needed. Dose at the standard rate (see Dosage) for every 1 mg/L (or fraction thereof) of measured total ammonia, or for every 0.85 mg/L of measured total ammonia-nitrogen. Perform regular water changes to keep alkalinity (acid-neutralising capacity) and pH stable. For more detail, refer to the manufacturer's Product Data Sheet.

Dosage

  • 1 teaspoon (5 mL) per 10 gallons (38 L) of water, or
  • 1 oz. (30 mL) per 60 gallons (227 L) of water

These rates apply to each of the situations listed under How to Use.

Suitable For

  • Freshwater aquariums and garden ponds
  • Water that will hold fish, amphibians, invertebrates or plants
  • Setting up new tanks and ponds
  • Water changes and top-ups
  • Moving fish and shipping fish in bags

Compatibility

  • May be used at the regular dosage to stop or reverse permanganate treatments.
  • Do not use with permanganate-based or chlorite-based treatments.
  • Testing: use a salicylate (indophenol) type total ammonia test kit, because a Nessler total ammonia test will give false high (or off-scale) readings.
  • For dissolved oxygen (DO) testing, use either a DO meter or an indigocarmine test, because Winkler dissolved oxygen tests will give false low (or zero) readings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much Hikari Ultimate Water Conditioner do I add?
Add 1 teaspoon (5 mL) per 10 gallons (38 L), or 1 oz. (30 mL) per 60 gallons (227 L) of water. This covers new setups, water additions and the addition of new livestock or plants.

Can I use it when I add new fish, amphibians, invertebrates or plants?
Yes. The manufacturer lists adding these as one of the times to fully condition the water, at the standard dosage.

Will it help a new tank cycle?
It instantly "ages" water and can reduce the time your tank needs to cycle. It also addresses chloramine, ammonia, chlorine, heavy metals and nitrite in new setups.

Which ammonia test kit should I use?
Use a salicylate (indophenol) type total ammonia test kit. A Nessler test will give false high or off-scale readings while the conditioner is in the water.

Can I use it with permanganate treatments?
Do not use it with permanganate-based or chlorite-based treatments. It can, however, be used at the regular dosage to stop or reverse a permanganate treatment.

Which pack size should I choose?
Choose by the volume of water you need to treat. The range treats 240 gal ~ 908L, 960 gal ~ 3,633L or 7,680 gal ~ 29,071L, depending on the pack size.
