Understanding White Spot

White spot is a protozoan parasite. The adults live on the fish and show up as tiny white spots on the body. Their life cycle is complex, and it results in hundreds of free-swimming juveniles that go looking for a host fish to infest. Fungal infections look different: they appear as cotton-wool-like growths. This treatment is designed to deal with both problems, along with other larger parasites, in a single 7-day course.

How to Use

• Work out the dose your aquarium needs, either from the bottle label or with the manufacturer's Dosage Calculator.
• Day 1: add the first dose to the aquarium, following the instructions on the bottle label.
• Leave the aquarium undisturbed until day 3, then add a second dose.
• Repeat the dose on day 5 and again on day 7. That makes four doses, added every other day over the 7 days.
• After the day 7 dose, leave the product in the water for a further 7 days before performing a partial water change.
• Once the course is finished, you can repeat the treatment or use another medication if necessary.

Dosage

You will need 20.00 ml per 100 L. This is the total amount for a full 7-day course, not a single dose. Divide it equally across the four treatment days (day 1, 3, 5 and 7).

Worked example: for a 200 litre aquarium, add a 10 ml dose on day 1, another 10 ml on day 3, again on day 5 and again on day 7, following the bottle instructions each time.

For a particularly sensitive fish, there is no need to use half doses. Instead, give each dose as two halves spread throughout the day.
