Red Sea DipX Coral Bath 250ml is a coral dip for reef keepers who want to introduce new corals and live rock to their aquarium without bringing unwanted hitchhikers along. A simple 15-minute bath before the coral goes into your tank helps drive those pests away and protects the rest of your reef.

Why Dip New Corals?

New corals often arrive with tiny hitchhikers tucked deep inside their crevices. They are usually invisible to the naked eye, and once they are in your aquarium they can migrate to other corals and damage your delicate reef ecosystem. There is no viable way to remove specific opportunistic dwellers from an established reef. Not every hitchhiker is necessarily harmful, but some quickly become unwelcome guests. Preventing them from getting in at all is the "better safe than sorry" approach.

If hitchhikers are already in the system, the affected corals and rocks have to be removed and dealt with one at a time. That is far more work than a quick dip at the start.

How It Was Developed

Reef hobbyists have long used generic bath solutions such as fresh water, iodine and even household disinfectants. All of these repel some hitchhikers, but not all of them. The manufacturer spent several years cultivating tanks with infested corals. They compared a wide range of commercially available dips and other repelling ingredients, looking at both effectiveness and overall safety for the corals. The result is DipX.

According to the manufacturer's tests, DipX is completely safe for all kinds of corals and more effective than any other solution they tested. Corals bathed in DipX still repelled hitchhikers even though they had previously been dipped in other solutions. Corals dipped in other solutions after a DipX bath did not repel anything.

How to Use

• Check that the container is both clean and dry, then pour the DipX into it while it is empty.
• Dilute with aquarium water at 1:100 to make the bath mix (see Dosage below).
• Place your new coral or live rock in the container for no more than 15 minutes.
• The bath solution can be reused for up to four batches of corals or rocks, but it should be discarded within 2 hours of preparation.

• Maximum bath time: 15 minutes per coral or rock.
• Maximum reuse: four batches, within 2 hours of preparing the solution.

Husbandry Tip

Careful inspection of your corals should be part of your regular reef routine, so that any soft tissue damage or discoloration is spotted and investigated as soon as possible. Early detection of hitchhikers is the most effective way to prevent an uncontrolled outbreak that could harm the entire reef.
