Description

Red Sea Reef Foundation ABC+ Skeletal Elements 1kg

Red Sea Reef Foundation ABC+ Skeletal Elements is a powder reef supplement that replenishes the essential elements corals draw from your marine aquarium. It dissolves into one daily or weekly routine, so reefkeepers dosing against a measured calcium uptake no longer need to manage several separate additives. It is supplied as a 1 kg pack.

What It Is

This is a uniquely formulated powder that combines all the elements of Foundation A, B and C with Reef Colors A and B (potassium, boron, iodine and bromine). The elements are blended in the same ratio found in the coral skeleton. Coral species differ slightly, but the mean ratio between these elements stays fairly constant. Dosing them in a fixed ratio, tied to calcium uptake, replenishes the aquarium according to the metabolic demands of your corals.

Key Benefits

  • Gives accurate metabolic support for corals, based on their calcium uptake
  • Combines Foundation A, B and C plus Reef Colors A and B in a single powder
  • Formulated in the exact ratio found in the coral skeleton
  • Simplifies daily dosing of far more than just the foundation elements
  • Can be dosed daily or weekly to suit your aquarium type

How to Use

  • Dose daily or weekly, according to your aquarium type and a measured uptake of calcium.
  • Add the powder directly to the sump. Do not dissolve it in top-up water.
  • Never add more than 60g at one time to any system, irrespective of size.
  • If a larger dose is needed, add it in spoonfuls with 10-minute intervals between them. This lets the powder dissolve without causing precipitation.
  • Do not use it to make periodic adjustments to the calcium level.

Dosage

1g per 100 litres will give a Ca of 1.5ppm.

Testing and Balancing

Over time an imbalance may develop between the foundation elements.

  • If dosing daily, test all of the foundation elements weekly and adjust with the individual A, B and C supplements.
  • If dosing weekly, test all of the foundation elements monthly and adjust with the individual A, B and C supplements.
  • Only supplement the elements in Reef Colors A and B (potassium, boron, iodine and bromine) according to a measured uptake of iodine and potassium.

Suitable For

  • Marine reef aquariums with corals that consume calcium
  • Reefkeepers who measure calcium uptake and want to dose to it
  • Aquariums of up to about 300 litres (79 gal)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I dissolve the powder in my top-up water?
No. Add it directly to the sump rather than dissolving it in top-up water.

How often should I dose it?
Dose daily or weekly, depending on your aquarium type and a measured uptake of calcium. At 1g per 100 litres, the dose will give a Ca of 1.5ppm.

What is the most I can add at once?
Never add more than 60g at one time, whatever the system size. For larger doses, add it by the spoon with 10-minute intervals in between so the powder can dissolve without precipitation.

Can I use it to correct my calcium level?
No. It should not be used for periodic adjustments to the calcium level. It is designed to replenish elements in step with calcium uptake.

Do I still need the individual A, B and C supplements?
Possibly, for fine-tuning. An imbalance between the foundation elements can develop over time. Test weekly if you dose daily, or monthly if you dose weekly, and adjust with the individual A, B and C supplements.

What size aquarium is it recommended for?
It is recommended for aquariums of up to about 300 litres (79 gal).
