Description

Red Sea Reefer DC Protein Skimmers

Red Sea Reefer DC Protein Skimmers are DC-powered protein skimmers for removing waste from saltwater aquariums, built around self-leveling technology and a Sicce skimmer pump for efficient, quiet running. They suit reef and marine keepers with tanks from roughly 80 to 740 gallons (about 303 to 2,801 litres) who want smart, app-connected skimming. These skimmers are supplied without a controller and need a ReefRun Controller (sold separately) to operate.

Key Benefits

  • Self-leveling technology helps prevent skimmer overflow. A sensor monitors foam wetness and waste level, and when it triggers, the pump intensity is reduced immediately to prevent over-skimming, then slowly adjusted until stable skimming returns.
  • Where a basic float-switch skimmer simply shuts off, the Reefer DC keeps running at reduced intensity, so it continues to oxygenate the water while avoiding a messy overflow.
  • Powered by the Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump, which brings quiet operation, low power consumption, controllable flow rates and smart functionality.
  • The pump is paired with a properly sized venturi, bubble diffuser and skimmer body for optimal waste removal.
  • Connects to the Red Sea ReefBeat app so you can control and monitor the skimmer's status.
  • With other ReefBeat-connected gear on your aquarium, you can automate routines and set quick actions so your equipment works together.
  • Two orientation options, giving different footprints to suit your sump or cabinet layout.

How to Use

The skimmer needs a ReefRun Controller (sold separately) to operate. Once running, use the ReefBeat app to control the skimmer and keep an eye on its status.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Reefer DC skimmer come with a controller?
No. It is supplied without a controller and needs a ReefRun Controller (sold separately) to operate.

What happens when the skimmer starts to overflow?
The self-leveling sensor monitors foam wetness and waste level. When it triggers, pump intensity drops immediately to prevent over-skimming, then is slowly adjusted until stable skimming returns. The skimmer keeps running and oxygenating the water rather than switching off like a basic float-switch system.

Which Reefer DC model suits my tank?
It depends on tank volume and bioload. For a heavy bioload, the 300 is recommended up to 80 gallons (about 303 litres), the 600 up to 160 gallons (about 606 litres) and the 900 up to 240 gallons (about 908 litres). Light bioload tanks can go much larger, up to 740 gallons (about 2,801 litres) with the 900.

How much power does it use?
The models use 20 W (300), 25 W (600) and 30 W (900), all with the PSK DC-1200 pump, so running costs stay low, which is useful with load shedding in mind.

Can I control it from my phone?
Yes. The Reefer DC connects to the ReefBeat app for control and monitoring of its status. If you have other ReefBeat-connected equipment, you can also set up automated routines and quick actions.

Can I choose how the skimmer is positioned?
Yes. Each model has two orientation options with slightly different footprints, so you can pick the layout that fits your sump best.
