Description

Salifert Nitrite Marine Test Kit

Salifert Nitrite Marine Test Kit is a marine aquarium water test kit for accurately measuring nitrite levels in saltwater aquariums. It is designed for marine fishkeepers who need to detect toxic nitrite in aquariums containing fish and invertebrates, including established systems as well as newer tanks.

Key Benefits

  • Accurately measures nitrite in marine aquarium water.
  • Formulated to detect toxic nitrite without interference from amines, including naturally occurring and essential amino acids.
  • Produces full colour development within minutes.
  • Develops an intense colour to make even minute traces of nitrite easier to detect.
  • Salifert states that it is probably the most sensitive, accurate and fastest nitrite test kit available.
  • Provides approximately 60 measurements.

Suitable For

  • Marine aquariums.
  • Saltwater systems housing fish and invertebrates.
  • New aquariums during the first 3 or 4 weeks of cycling.
  • Established marine tanks where nitrite monitoring is still required.

Specifications

  • Test type: nitrite marine water test kit.
  • Approximate number of measurements: 60.
  • Colour development: full colour development within minutes.
  • Amines: designed not to suffer from amine interference.

What's Included

  • Salifert Nitrite Marine Test Kit.

Nitrite is toxic to fish and invertebrates. While nitrite is converted to nitrate in properly cycled aquariums, it is a misconception that nitrite has necessarily vanished once a tank has completed its initial cycle after the first 3 or 4 weeks. The nitrate formed during this process may be transformed into harmless nitrogen gas through denitrification in oxygen-deprived areas of live rock and miscellaneous filter materials.

Before nitrate is transformed into nitrogen gas, it is first converted back to nitrite. If this part of the cycle cannot be completed for any reason, toxic nitrite may be present in significant concentrations. Many nitrite test kits can be affected by amines, potentially producing a measured value that is too low, especially where nitrite concentration is relatively low. Salifert uses very special ingredients to avoid this amine interference and support clear, intense colour development for nitrite detection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why test for nitrite in an established marine aquarium?
Nitrite may still be present even after the initial 3 or 4 week cycling period. If nitrate is not fully transformed into nitrogen gas during denitrification, it is first converted back to nitrite.

Can amines affect marine nitrite test results?
Yes. Amines, including naturally occurring and essential amino acids, can interfere with many nitrite tests and result in a value that is too low. This Salifert kit is designed not to suffer from such interference.

How quickly does the Salifert Nitrite Marine Test Kit develop colour?
The test delivers full colour development within minutes, with an intense developed colour intended to make minute nitrite traces easier to see.

How many tests can this kit perform?
The Salifert Nitrite Marine Test Kit can perform approximately 60 measurements.

Is this test kit suitable for marine invertebrate aquariums?
Yes. It is intended for marine aquariums and can be used to monitor nitrite, which is toxic to both fish and invertebrates.
