Description

Seachem Cupramine

Seachem Cupramine is a copper-based treatment for freshwater and marine fish affected by external parasites, including Oodinium, Cryptocaryon, Amyloodinium and Ichthyophthirius. This 50 ml (1.7 fl oz) Seachem fish medication remains in solution and is formulated for use at low copper concentrations.

Key Benefits

  • For the treatment of external fish parasites in freshwater and marine aquariums.
  • Active at low concentrations and does not precipitate.
  • Amine-bound copper formulation designed to be less toxic to fish than some copper treatments.
  • Non-acidic and does not contaminate the filter bed.
  • Fully charged ionic copper that can be removed with activated carbon or Seachem CupriSorb.
  • There is a concentration range between the minimum therapeutic dose of 0.2 mg/L and toxic dose of 0.8 mg/L; do not exceed 0.6 mg/L copper.

How to Use

Before treatment, remove all invertebrates, as they are extremely sensitive to copper. Switch off UV and ozone filters, and remove chemical filtration such as MatrixCarbon and Purigen. Do not combine Cupramine with other medications or products containing reducing agents, including conditioners and ammonia binders.

Dosage

If the bottle has a dropper cap, add 20 drops (1 mL) per 40 L (10.5 US gallons) on day one. Wait 48 hours, then repeat the dose. For non-dropper caps, each inner ring measures 1 mL. Use a half dose in freshwater. The final copper concentration is 0.5 mg/L in marine water and 0.25 mg/L in freshwater. Maintain this concentration for 14 days and do not redose without testing copper levels.

Suitable For

Freshwater and marine fish aquariums where treatment for external parasitic infections is required. Complete the full 14-day treatment, as parasites such as ich and velvet may remain in medication-resistant cyst stages within the aquarium substrate.

Compatibility

Remove Cupramine after treatment with activated carbon or Seachem CupriSorb. Leave the copper-absorbing media in the aquarium for at least one week after the copper concentration reaches 0.

What's Included

  • 50 ml (1.7 fl oz) Seachem Cupramine copper treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Seachem Cupramine be used in a freshwater aquarium?
Yes. Cupramine is suitable for freshwater fish, but use a half dose to achieve a final copper concentration of 0.25 mg/L.

Can I use Cupramine in a marine aquarium with corals, shrimp or snails?
No. Remove all invertebrates before treatment, as they are extremely sensitive to copper and will not tolerate a copper-based medication.

How long should Cupramine remain in my aquarium?
Maintain the recommended copper concentration for 14 days, even if parasites are no longer visible on the fish.

Should I leave activated carbon, Purigen or UV running during treatment?
No. Remove chemical filtration such as MatrixCarbon and Purigen, and turn off UV and ozone filters before dosing.

How do I remove Cupramine after treatment?
Use activated carbon or Seachem CupriSorb. Keep the copper-absorbing media in the aquarium for at least one week after the copper level has reached 0.

Can I dose Cupramine with water conditioner or ammonia binder?
Do not use products containing reducing agents, including conditioners and ammonia binders, while using Cupramine. Do not use it together with other medications.
