Description

Seachem Paraguard

Seachem Paraguard is an aldehyde-based fish parasite control treatment for freshwater aquariums, particularly hospital, receiving and quarantine tanks. It is intended for fishkeepers treating ectoparasites and external fungal, bacterial and viral lesions, including issues such as ich and fin rot.

Made with a proprietary blend of aldehydes, malachite green and fish-protective polymers, Seachem ParaGuard contains 10% aldehydes by weight. It contains no formaldehyde or methanol, will not alter pH, and is designed to be safe for fish and biological filtration when used as directed.

Key Benefits

  • Targets many ectoparasites on fish, including ich.
  • For external fungal, bacterial and viral lesions.
  • Can be used in hospital tanks, receiving tanks and quarantine setups.
  • Suitable for prophylactic use when introducing new fish to a community aquarium.
  • Does not adversely affect the bio-filter.

Dosage

  • Remove all invertebrates and chemical filtration before treatment.
  • Add 5 mL (1 capful) for every 40 L (10 US gallons).
  • Repeat the dose daily as required, provided fish show no signs of stress.
  • For a 1-hour medicated dip, use 3 mL per 4 L (1 US gallon) in a separate container. The dip may be extended if fish show no evidence of stress.

How to Use

Use in a quarantine tank to monitor and medicate new fish before they enter the main aquarium. A two-week ParaGuard treatment period is generally recommended for clearing possible external infections during quarantine. A dip alone may not be effective if fish are returned to infected aquarium water.

Suitable For

Freshwater fish in quarantine, hospital and community-tank introduction situations. Eels, loaches, rays, sharks and other medication-sensitive fish may require a partial dose initially, increased gradually to the full dose over several days.

Compatibility

Remove invertebrates before use. Not recommended for reef aquaria. Remove chemical filtration during treatment, while biological filtration can remain in place.

What's Included

Seachem ParaGuard fish treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Seachem ParaGuard in my main aquarium?
It can be used when introducing fish to a community tank, but all invertebrates and chemical filtration must be removed first. A separate quarantine or hospital tank is particularly useful for treatment and observation.

How much ParaGuard should I add to my aquarium?
Dose 5 mL (1 capful) for every 40 L (10 US gallons), repeating daily as required while fish show no stress.

Can ParaGuard be used as a fish dip?
Yes. Use 3 mL per 4 L (1 US gallon) in a separate container for a 1-hour dip. The dip may be extended only if the fish show no evidence of stress.

Is ParaGuard safe for beneficial bacteria and aquarium filters?
It will not adversely affect the bio-filter, but chemical filtration should be removed during treatment.

Can I use ParaGuard with shrimp, snails or a reef aquarium?
No. Remove all invertebrates before dosing, and do not use it in reef aquaria.

What should I do for sensitive fish such as loaches or rays?
Start with a partial dose and build up to the full dose over several days if you suspect your fish may be sensitive to medication.
