Tropica 057 Tissue Culture - Blyxa japonica

Tropica 057 Tissue Culture - Blyxa japonica is a live aquatic aquarium plant with a distinctive grass-like appearance. It suits aquascapers and planted-tank keepers who want fine, flowing foliage that contrasts with sturdier plants.

Key Benefits

• Distinct grass-like look that adds texture and visual interest to a planted aquarium
• Foliage moves easily in circulating aquarium water, creating a sense of movement compared with more robust plants
• Rosulate growth form with a medium growth rate
• Medium light and medium CO2 demand, as listed in the plant info

About the Plant

Blyxa japonica originates in the nutrient-rich shallow pools, swamps and slowly flowing rivers of East and South East Asia. It gained wide recognition through the aquarium work of the late Takashi Amano in the 1990s. Its grass-like leaves respond to the water flow in the tank, which gives an aquascape a more dynamic feel than stiffer, sturdier plants do.

Suitable For

• Aquascapers and hobbyists who like the grass-like style associated with Takashi Amano's aquarium work
• Planted aquariums with medium lighting and medium CO2 levels
• Tanks with circulating water, where the foliage can move with the flow
