Description

Tropica 125 Tissue Culture - Cryptocoryne crispatula

Tropica 125 Tissue Culture - Cryptocoryne crispatula is a live aquarium plant supplied from tissue culture in a closed cup. It suits aquarists who want a background rosette plant whose long leaves can drift across the water surface, and it is a good choice for a South African planted tank that needs a low-demand rear feature.

Key Benefits

  • Long leaves that can float on the water surface when the plant is placed at the back of the tank
  • Not very demanding, with low light and low CO2 requirements listed
  • Medium growth rate from a single rosette
  • Leaves are either entirely green or maroon, which adds colour variation to a planted layout
  • Supplied from tissue culture in a closed cup

About This Plant

Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae comes from the limestone mountains of Southern Thailand, where the water can be very hard. It is not a fussy species, but it appreciates a nutritious substrate and good light. Like many other Cryptocorynes, it needs time to acclimatise before growth starts in earnest, so be patient after planting.

The leaves reach 20-60 cm (8-24") in length. The single rosette plant grows 15-20 cm (6-8") wide, so allow room for it to spread.

How to Use

  • Place it in the rear part of the tank, where the leaves can float on the water surface.
  • Plant it in a nutritious substrate and give it good light.
  • Allow it time to acclimatise before expecting solid growth.

Suitable For

  • Planted freshwater aquariums that need a background plant
  • Aquarists who want a rosette plant with low light and low CO2 demand
  • Tanks with enough height and rear space for long leaves
