Description

UltraZap UV Clarifier Professional Marine Series with Quartz Sleeve

UltraZap UV Clarifier Professional Marine Series with Quartz Sleeve is an aquarium UV clarifier that clears free floating algae from the water without chemicals. It is made for hobbyists who want sparkling water in freshwater or marine aquariums, with no side effects on fish, plants or coral according to the manufacturer.

Why Clear Water Matters

Clear water makes an aquarium a pleasure to watch. A green, algae-filled tank is unappealing, and it makes it hard to tell whether your fish or coral are diseased or have simply injured themselves. Algae can also starve your fish of the oxygen they need. An UltraZap UV unit is designed to eradicate free floating algae and keep the water clear throughout the year.

Key Benefits

  • Controls free floating, single-celled algae and sterilises the aquarium water
  • Works without chemicals, so there is no risk of over-treatment or residual chemical build-up
  • Has no side effects on the fish, plants or coral in your aquarium or on its environment, according to the manufacturer
  • Helps maintain clear water all year round, so you can see your livestock properly
  • Professional Marine Series unit with a quartz sleeve

How It Works

The unit exposes phototrophic micro-organisms, meaning free floating single-celled algae, to a dose of UV radiation. This destroys the algae and prevents them from regrowing. The tubes in all UltraZap UV sterilisers emit a wide range of ultraviolet, with the most significant part at a wavelength of 253.7 nm. This wavelength has been found to be the most efficient for germicidal action. The manufacturer also describes the germicidal range as UV-C (315-400 nm), because of its ability to destroy micro-organisms.

Why Choose UV Over Algaecides

Algaecides carry the risk of over-treatment and of residual chemicals building up in your aquarium. The fish and plants in your tank are, to some degree, sensitive to algaecides. With a UV unit you stand no such risk.

How to Use

  • Freshwater aquariums: run water through the UV unit 2-4 times per hour
  • Saltwater aquariums: run water through the UV unit 2 times per hour

Suitable For

  • Freshwater aquariums troubled by green, free floating algae
  • Marine and saltwater aquariums with fish and coral
  • Planted tanks, where algaecides can be a concern

Specifications

  • Key UV output wavelength: 253.7 nm
  • Freshwater flow: 2-4 times per hour
  • Saltwater flow: 2 times per hour
  • Includes a quartz sleeve

Please Note

All UV light tubes and ballasts are thoroughly tested before dispatch. Because of the nature of the product and the unreliable power supply in South Africa, where power surges can cause damage, there is unfortunately no warranty on these units.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this UV clarifier use chemicals?
No. It clears the water by exposing free floating single-celled algae to UV radiation, so there is no risk of over-treatment or residual chemical build-up.

Is it safe for coral, fish and plants?
The manufacturer states that UltraZap UV units have no side effects on the inhabitants of your aquarium, including fish, plants and coral, or on its environment.

What kind of algae does it control?
It targets free floating, single-celled algae, the kind that turns aquarium water green. It does this by exposing them to UV radiation, which destroys them and prevents regrowth.

What flow rate should I aim for?
For freshwater aquariums, the water should pass through the unit 2-4 times per hour. For saltwater aquariums, it should pass through 2 times per hour.

How do I choose the right size for my tank?
Choose a unit suited to your aquarium's water volume and the flow rates above: 2-4 times per hour for freshwater and 2 times per hour for saltwater.

Is there a warranty on the UV tube and ballast?
Every tube and ballast is thoroughly tested before dispatch, but there is no warranty. Power surges, which are common with South Africa's unreliable power supply, can damage this type of product.
