Description

Aquavitro Plant Carbonate

Aquavitro Plant Carbonate is a concentrated aquarium water conditioner for planted aquariums, formulated to raise carbonate hardness (KH) and potassium levels. From Seachem’s Aquavitro plant-care range, it helps support more stable pH conditions while providing a useful CO2 reserve when carbon dioxide levels drop.

Key Benefits

  • Raises carbonate hardness (KH) to help improve pH stability.
  • Supplies potassium, an essential nutrient for aquarium plants.
  • Provides a carbonate-based CO2 backup reserve if CO2 becomes too low.
  • Made from potassium bicarbonate, which has a gentler effect on pH than potassium carbonate.
  • Contains 2,000 meq/L (5,600 dKH) carbonate hardness and 78,300 mg/L potassium.

How It Works
Carbonate hardness measures the bicarbonate and carbonate content of aquarium water. Maintaining an appropriate KH can reduce sudden pH changes and supports a more consistent planted-tank environment. Aquavitro Plant Carbonate uses potassium bicarbonate rather than potassium carbonate; potassium bicarbonate has a pH of around 8.2, compared with approximately 11.5 for potassium carbonate.

Dosage
Add 30 mL per 60 L of aquarium water once weekly, or as needed. This dose raises carbonate hardness by 1 meq/L (2.8 dKH) and increases potassium by 40 mg/L.

Important Use Advice
For unbuffered water or aquariums without CO2 injection, use one-quarter to one-half of the standard dose to avoid an excessive effect on pH. Plant requirements vary, but a useful general KH target is around 1–2 meq/L (3–6 dKH).

Size
350 mL bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Aquavitro Plant Carbonate do in a planted aquarium?
It increases KH and potassium, helping to stabilise pH while supplying a carbonate reserve that can support CO2 availability if CO2 levels fall.

How much Aquavitro Plant Carbonate should I add?
Dose 30 mL per 60 L of aquarium water once a week or as required. This raises KH by 1 meq/L (2.8 dKH).

How much potassium does the recommended dose provide?
A 30 mL dose per 60 L increases potassium by 40 mg/L.

Can I use this product in an aquarium without CO2 injection?
Yes, but use only one-quarter to one-half of the normal dose in unbuffered water or where CO2 is not injected, as KH additions can affect pH.

Why does Aquavitro Plant Carbonate use potassium bicarbonate?
Potassium bicarbonate has a pH of around 8.2 and therefore has a less dramatic pH effect than potassium carbonate, which has a pH closer to 11.5.
