Aquavitro Plant Propel
Aquavitro Plant Propel is a concentrated ferrous iron supplement for freshwater planted aquariums, formulated to support healthy aquatic plant growth and help prevent iron-deficiency symptoms in new leaves. From Seachem’s Aquavitro plant-care range, it is ideal for aquascapers and planted-tank keepers who want readily usable iron for vibrant chlorophyll production.
Key Benefits
- Provides a concentrated 10,000 mg/L source of ferrous iron.
- Supplies a blend of immediately available and time-released iron.
- Helps promote healthy plant growth and chlorophyll production.
- Supports the prevention of chlorosis, where younger leaves become pale or yellow.
- Contains a reducing agent to help convert existing ferric iron (Fe3+) in the aquarium or substrate into usable ferrous iron (Fe2+).
Why Plants Need Ferrous Iron
Iron is immobile within aquatic plants, so it cannot be moved from older leaves to new growth. Deficiency signs therefore usually appear first on young leaves, including yellowing, increasingly pale new foliage, and short, slender stems. Aquavitro Plant Propel provides iron in the ferrous form, which plants can use without first expending energy to convert ferric iron.
How to Use
Dose 5 mL per 200 L of aquarium water three times per week, or as needed to maintain approximately 0.10 mg/L iron. Add to a freshwater planted aquarium as part of a consistent fertilisation routine.
Suitable For
Freshwater planted aquariums, including aquascapes and tanks with demanding stem plants or fast-growing plants showing signs consistent with iron deficiency in new growth.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much Aquavitro Plant Propel should I dose?
Use 5 mL per 200 L of aquarium water, three times weekly. Adjust as needed to maintain about 0.10 mg/L iron.
What signs can indicate iron deficiency in aquarium plants?
Iron deficiency commonly affects new or young leaves first, causing chlorosis or yellowing. New leaves may emerge progressively lighter in colour, while stems can become short and slender.
Is Aquavitro Plant Propel the same as Seachem Flourish Iron?
No. Both contain ferrous gluconate at the same concentration, but Propel also includes a time-released iron source and a reducing agent that helps convert existing ferric iron into ferrous iron.
Why is ferrous iron important for planted aquariums?
Plants need iron for chlorophyll production. Ferrous iron (Fe2+) is the form plants can utilise directly, whereas ferric iron (Fe3+) must first be converted by the plant.
Can I use Propel if my aquarium substrate already contains iron?
Yes. Propel contains a reducing agent that helps convert iron already present, including iron in the substrate, from ferric to the more usable ferrous form.
