We recommend using the bath treatment method for metronidazole-susceptible microbial diseases in marine and freshwater aquarium and pond fishes. This treatment is suggested for symptoms of hole-in-the-head and lateral line erosion. Treatments should be consecutive and uninterrupted, lasting up to 10 days. For bath treatments, follow these instructions:

• For best results, perform a minimum 30% water change (using Ultimate® or a combination of Liquid Buffered ClorAm-X® and Stress-X™) before the first treatment and each daily retreatment.
• Use 1 capful (~10g) of Metro+™ per 20 gallons (76L) of water daily to achieve a 5 mg/L concentration of Metronidazole.
• After 24 hours, complete at least a 30% water change before each dose.
• Continue treatment for 5 to 7 days or until mortalities stop. If no improvement occurs within six (6) days, discontinue treatment and consider other options.

We recommend the oral treatment method for systemic (internal) infections. Metro+™ can be mixed with fish food or included in prepared food. Since Metro+™ may taste bitter, it might reduce your fish’s willingness to eat. For oral treatments, follow these instructions:

• Refer to our article on how to make medicated feed using either a gelatin-based or dry food-based mix. The gelatin-based method produces food that sinks quickly, while the dry food-based method’s sinking depends on the feed ingredients used.
• Replace your fish’s usual diet with the medicated feed you prepare. Feed at least twice daily, only the amount your fish will eat within a few minutes (no more than 5 minutes). Remove any uneaten food promptly to prevent environmental harm.
• Continue feeding at least three days after all disease signs disappear. Stop using the medicated feed once the cure is complete, and never use it as regular food when not treating disease. Do not use prepared medicated food more than 10 days old.

DO NOT OVERDOSE – Calculate your tank’s actual water volume by multiplying length × width × height and dividing by 238 to get gallons. Subtract the space taken up by substrate (gravel, sand, etc.), rocks, decorations, or other objects displacing water.

WARNING: Never use this product with permanganate-based treatments. We do not recommend combining it with sulfur or sulfite-based water conditioners. If your usual water conditioner’s ingredients are unclear, please check with the manufacturer to ensure it does not contain these substances.
