Hygger Fish Waste Collector
Hygger Fish Waste Collector is an external hang-on fish waste separator that pulls large particles of waste out of the water before they reach your filter media. It suits aquariums of more than about 76 litres (20 gal) or heavily stocked tanks, and it helps improve filtration while reducing how often filter media needs replacing.
Key Benefits
- Double-effect design: a double impurity collection chamber and a double valve disposal switch collect large particles separately and discharge them quickly.
- Reduces filter cleaning and other tedious maintenance, and lowers the replacement rate of filter media.
- Improves the filtering effect by removing bulky waste before it reaches the filter material.
- No drilling needed. Unlike a traditional PVC pipe overflow setup, this hang-on overflow does not require you to damage the tank by drilling holes.
- Saves space inside the tank. Only 2 pipes sit in the aquarium, which suits a clean, simple look and fish that are bothered by motor noise.
- Suits DIY filtration. The inlet and outlet pipe fittings are two separate parts, so you can build your own system for a long or large aquarium, or pair it with a sump that holds various types and quantities of filter material.
- Restarts by itself after a power cut. Once power returns, the filtration cycle starts again automatically as long as the water pump can run.
- The water outlet valve adjusts the flow to help avoid overflow.
- The hard pipe can be cut to match the height of your aquarium, and a cutting tool is included.
- A pipe brush is included for easy cleaning.
- White tape is included to wrap around any connections that leak.
How It Works
- Impurities and dirty water are drawn away through the suction pipe. Water carrying an oily film from the surface flows in through the oil film remover.
- Part of the impurities sink into the collection chamber, and you discharge them by opening the 2 valves.
- The remaining dirty water flows into a bottom container holding filter media (not included).
- A water pump in the bottom filter container runs (not included).
- The filtered water returns to the tank through the upper water inlet pipe.
How to Use
- Fish waste and leftover food sink to the bottom of the tank and are sucked away.
- A 304 stainless steel net intercepts part of the large-particle impurities.
- The large particles then drop into the sedimentation box.
- Rotate the outlet valve to discharge the water containing the impurities.
- Cut the hard pipe to suit the height of your aquarium using the included cutting tool, and wrap any leaking connection with the supplied white tape.
Suitable For
- Aquariums of more than 20 gallons or tanks with large numbers of fish.
- Long or large-sized aquariums where you want to build a DIY filtration setup.
- Aquarists who want to avoid drilling and keep the tank interior uncluttered.
- Fish that are afraid of the sound of a motor.
Compatibility
- Must be used with an additional bottom container holding filter media, plus a water pump. Neither is included.
- Can be matched with sump tanks that hold various types and quantities of filter material.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the fish waste collector include a water pump or filter media?
No. It must be used with an additional bottom container holding filter media and a water pump, none of which are included.
Do I need to drill my aquarium to install it?
No. It is an external hang-on overflow, so no holes need to be drilled in the tank. Only 2 pipes sit inside the aquarium.
What size tank is it designed for?
It is intended for aquariums of more than 20 gallons or tanks with large numbers of fish. It also suits long or large aquariums and sump-based DIY filtration setups.
What happens after load-shedding or a power cut?
All operation stops when the power goes off. When power is restored, the filtration cycle restarts automatically provided the water pump is able to run.
How do I remove the collected waste?
Large particles are caught by the 304 stainless steel net and settle in the sedimentation box. Rotate the outlet valve to discharge the water containing the impurities. Waste in the collection chamber is discharged by opening the 2 valves.
Can I adjust the pipe to fit my tank height?
Yes. The hard pipe can be cut to the height of your aquarium, and a cutting tool is included.
