Description

Maxspect Nano-Tech Bio-Block 2pc

Maxspect Nano-Tech Bio-Block 2pc is a ceramic biological filter media for freshwater and marine aquariums, designed to give bacterial colonies a large surface to establish on for effective water treatment. It suits hobbyists who want extra biological filtration capacity in a sump, external filter or internal filter, or who want to place the blocks directly in the tank.

Key Benefits

  • Ultra-high surface cross-cutting ratio and filtration area, giving each Bio-Block up to 1,080 m² of surface area for bacterial colonies to establish on.
  • Built around stabilised microbial sewage treatment technology (W-BAF, Biological Aerated Filter), which gives it a distinct advantage when treating water columns with high Ammonia-Nitrogen (NH4-N) and high Nitrate-Nitrogen (NO3-N).
  • Establishes bacterial colonies in the form of Bio-Nano Composite Films, allowing different species of bacteria and fungi to grow across its large surface.
  • Supports nitrifying bacteria, including species of the genera Nitrosomonas, Nitrosococcus, Nitrobacter and Nitrococcus, as well as yeast, phototrophic prokaryotes and similar organisms.
  • Made from ceramic beads and completely inert.
  • Flexible placement: it works in a filter sump, external filter or internal filter, or can simply be placed in the aquarium.

How to Use

  • Place the Bio-Blocks in your filter sump, external filter or internal filter as dedicated biological filter media.
  • Alternatively, place them directly in the aquarium.
  • Once in the water, bacterial colonies establish on the block surfaces as Bio-Nano Composite Films.

Suitable For

  • Aquarists who want a high-surface-area biological media for bacterial colonisation.
  • Tanks with high Ammonia-Nitrogen (NH4-N) or high Nitrate-Nitrogen (NO3-N) in the water column, where the W-BAF technology is intended to help.
  • Setups with limited filter space that need a compact media, or hobbyists who prefer to place media directly in the tank.

Compatibility

  • Freshwater aquariums
  • Marine water aquariums
  • Filter sumps, external filters and internal filters, or direct placement in the aquarium

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the Bio-Block in both freshwater and saltwater tanks?
Yes. It is made for freshwater and marine water aquariums.

Where can I put the Bio-Blocks?
Use them in a filter sump, external filter or internal filter. You can also place them directly in the aquarium.

What is W-BAF?
W-BAF stands for Biological Aerated Filter. It is the stabilised microbial sewage treatment technology behind the Bio-Block. It gives the media an advantage in treating water columns with high Ammonia-Nitrogen (NH4-N) and high Nitrate-Nitrogen (NO3-N).

Which bacteria can grow on the Bio-Block?
The large surface allows different species of bacteria and fungi to grow. These include nitrifying bacteria (genera Nitrosomonas, Nitrosococcus, Nitrobacter and Nitrococcus), yeast and phototrophic prokaryotes.

What is the Bio-Block made from, and is it safe to leave in the tank?
It is made of ceramic beads and is completely inert, so it can be placed in the aquarium itself as well as in the filter.

How many blocks come in the pack and how big are they?
The pack contains 2 filter blocks, each measuring 10 x 10 cm (4" x 4"). Each block offers up to 1,080 m² of surface area.
