Description

NT Labs Narrow pH 6-7.6 Test Kit

NT Labs Narrow pH 6-7.6 Test Kit is a liquid-reagent pH test kit for measuring pH between 6 and 7.6 in freshwater aquariums and ponds. It suits fishkeepers who want a simple, quick way to keep track of their water, especially with fish that have specific pH requirements or in a tropical community tank that needs a neutral pH.

Key Benefits

  • Measures pH accurately across the 6 to 7.6 range, the zone that matters for neutral and slightly acidic set-ups
  • Reads in steps of 0.2 pH units, so you can spot small shifts in your water
  • Quick results, with liquid reagents and a test tube that make it easy to use
  • Good for ponds and freshwater aquariums, so one kit covers both
  • Contains 40 tests, enough for regular monitoring over time

Why Test pH?

pH measures how acidic or alkaline your water is. Most fish prefer water between 7 and 8, and fluctuations outside the range a species prefers can stress the fish. Regular testing lets you pick up a drift early, before it becomes a problem for your pond or aquarium inhabitants.

What Is the Correct pH?

There is no single correct pH, because each fish species has its own preferred range. The ideal value generally lies between 7 and 8, though there are exceptions. When buying fish from your local aquatic retailer, always ask about the specific water requirements of the species you are choosing.

How to Use

Use the supplied test tube and liquid reagents to check your pond or aquarium water. If the result shows your pH needs adjusting, make changes gradually so you don't shock your fish:

  • Change the pH by no more than 0.5 pH units per 2 days
  • If your tap water is of suitable pH, substantial water changes can correct a dangerous pH level
  • Check the KH of the water as well, as it is an important part of pH management
  • To raise a pH that is low because of soft or aged water, pH adjusters such as NT Labs KH Buffer Up (for ponds) or NT Labs Aquarium KH Up - PH Stabiliser (for aquariums) can be used
  • For fish that prefer soft, acidic water, bogwood can be used to gently lower the pH and soften the water

Suitable For

  • Freshwater aquariums
  • Garden ponds
  • Fish with specific pH requirements
  • General tropical community aquaria that need a neutral pH
