Maintenance is at a minimum since the principle behind the mechanics of this filter is firstly it is purely for biological filtration and secondly, it’s a set and forgetful type of filter. The moving bed media inside the filter known as K1 is designed to move around the filter in a circular motion. As the pieces of filter media move around, beneficial bacteria are grown on the media. The circular motion/movement of the media causes them to bump against each other. This action ensures that a fresh, strong, and healthy supply of BB is continuously growing on your media. In turn, this produces a fresh and healthy biological filter that is continuously consuming and converting ammonia which is deadly to your fish into safe nitrate that your plants will benefit from.
The build-up of nitrates in your tank is removed or rather diluted down, with regular water changes.
