Description
Red Sea Coral Colors A Iodine 500ml
Red Sea Coral Colors A Iodine 500ml is a marine conditioner that replenishes the essential halogens in a reef aquarium to support coral health and reduce the risk of coral bleaching. It suits reef keepers who maintain soft corals or SPS corals and want a structured, test-based way to keep their Color Elements at optimal levels.
Key Benefits
- Replenishes essential halogens in aquarium systems to support coral health.
- A complex of three halogens: Iodine, Bromine and Fluorine.
- The halogens act as both antioxidants and oxidative agents within the soft tissue and mucus layer of corals, reducing the possibility of coral bleaching.
- Useful where these elements run low: in inactive reef systems they are depleted quickly because of their high oxidative abilities and their reactivity with organic materials.
- Iodine and bromine are related to the pink chroma protein (pocciloporin).
How to Use
Dosing is based on testing the Color Elements and topping each one back up to its optimal level. The routine depends on the type of coral you keep.
Soft corals (weekly dosing): test the Color Elements every week and dose each supplement to replenish it back to the optimal level.
SPS corals (daily dosing):
- Make sure all of the Color Elements are at optimal values, then run the aquarium for 4 days at a stable salinity without adding any supplements. Compensate for evaporation daily.
- At the end of the 4 days, test the Color Elements and calculate the 4-day dosage of each supplement needed to replenish it back to the optimal level.
- Add the 4-day dosage to the system.
- Divide the 4-day dosage by 4 and use the result as the daily dosage for the next week.
- After a week of daily dosing, test the Color Elements again and calculate the adjusting dosage of each supplement needed to restore the optimal level.
- If the adjusting dosage is significantly different from the previous daily dosage, amend (increase or decrease) the daily dosage as appropriate.
- If the measured level of a specific element is above the optimal level, wait for the excess to be depleted before restarting daily supplementation with the amended daily dosage.
- Keep testing all of the elements every week and adjust the daily dosages as required.
As your corals grow, or as you add or remove livestock, the uptake of these elements in your aquarium will gradually change. Keep a log book of the weekly measurements and dosages.
Dosage
- Soft corals: test weekly and dose each supplement to replenish it back to the optimal level.
- SPS corals: calculate a 4-day dosage from your test results, then divide it by 4 for the daily dosage over the following week.
- Missed one or more days: add the complete amount you have missed, but do not exceed the maximum recommended daily increase for any of the elements.
Suitable For
- Reef aquariums with soft corals, using the weekly dosing routine.
- Reef aquariums with SPS corals, using the daily dosing routine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which halogens does Coral Colors A contain?
It is a complex of three halogens: Iodine, Bromine and Fluorine.
How often should I dose it in a soft coral tank?
Test the Color Elements every week and dose each supplement to replenish it back to the optimal level.
How do I work out the daily dose for SPS corals?
Start with all Color Elements at optimal values and run the tank for 4 days at stable salinity, topping up for evaporation daily and adding no supplements. Then test, calculate the 4-day dosage and add it. Divide that figure by 4 to get the daily dosage for the next week, then test again and adjust.
What if a test shows an element above the optimal level?
Wait for the excess to be depleted before restarting daily supplementation with the amended daily dosage.
What should I do if I miss a day of dosing?
Add the complete amount you missed, but do not exceed the maximum recommended daily increase for any of the elements.
Why keep a log book of dosages?
Element uptake changes gradually as corals grow or as you add or remove livestock. A log of weekly measurements and dosages makes it easier to spot those changes and adjust your daily dosage.
