Description
Red Sea Coral Colors B Potassium 500ml
Red Sea Coral Colors B Potassium 500ml is a marine conditioner that replenishes potassium and boron in coral aquariums, two elements corals need for moving nutrients around their tissue and for building their skeletons. It is a potassium and boron complex for reef keepers who test their water and want to keep these elements at optimal levels for soft corals and SPS corals.
Key Benefits
- Replenishes potassium and boron in one complex, so both elements can be topped up together.
- Potassium plays an essential role in transporting coral nutrients within the soft tissue, including the nutrients provided by the zooxanthellae.
- Potassium and boron significantly affect the alkalinity of a coral's soft tissue and the formation of aragonite in its skeleton.
- Potassium is related to the red chromo-proteins, which makes it relevant for reef keepers focused on coral colour.
- Suits both weekly dosing for soft corals and daily dosing for SPS corals.
How to Use
Dose based on test results. Test the Color Elements and dose each supplement to bring it back to its optimal level. The routine depends on the type of coral you keep.
- Soft corals (weekly dosing): test the Color Elements every week and dose each supplement to replenish them to the optimal levels.
- SPS corals (daily dosing): follow the step-by-step routine below.
Dosage
Daily dosing routine for SPS corals:
- Make sure all of the Color Elements are at optimal values.
- Run the aquarium for 4 days at a stable salinity, compensating for evaporation daily, without adding any supplements.
- At the end of the 4 days, test the Color Elements and calculate the 4-day dosage of each supplement needed to replenish them to the optimal levels.
- Add the 4-day dosage to the system.
- Divide the 4-day dosage by 4 and use the result as the daily dosage for the next week.
- After a week of adding the daily dosage, test the Color Elements and calculate the adjusting dosage of each supplement needed to get back to optimal levels.
- If the adjusting dosage is significantly different from the previous daily dosage, increase or decrease the daily dosage as appropriate.
- If the measured level of a specific element is above the optimal level, wait for the excess to be depleted before restarting daily supplementation with the amended daily dosage.
- Keep testing all of the elements every week and adjust the daily dosages as required.
As your corals grow, or as you add or remove livestock, the uptake of these elements in your aquarium will gradually change. Keep a logbook of the weekly measurements and dosages.
If you miss one or more days of supplementing, add the complete amount you have missed, but do not exceed the maximum recommended daily increase for any of the elements.
Suitable For
- Coral aquariums and reef systems where potassium and boron need to be replenished.
- Soft corals, using the weekly dosing method.
- SPS corals, using the daily dosing method.
Compatibility
Designed for use alongside regular testing of the Color Elements, so dosing can be matched to what your corals are actually using. Keep salinity stable and compensate for evaporation daily, especially during the 4-day baseline period in the SPS routine.
What's Included
- 1 x 500 ml (17 fl oz) potassium and boron complex for coral aquariums
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Coral Colors B Potassium do in a reef tank?
It replenishes potassium and boron, which support nutrient transport within coral soft tissue and the formation of aragonite in the coral skeleton.
How often should I dose it for soft corals?
Test the Color Elements every week and dose each supplement to bring it back to its optimal level.
How do I set up daily dosing for SPS corals?
Start with all Color Elements at optimal values and run the tank for 4 days at stable salinity with no supplements. Test, calculate and add the 4-day dosage, then divide it by 4 for the daily dose over the following week. Retest after that week and adjust the daily dose if needed.
What if the test shows an element above the optimal level?
Wait for the excess to be depleted before restarting daily supplementation with the amended daily dosage.
What should I do if I miss a day of dosing?
Add the full amount you missed, but do not exceed the maximum recommended daily increase for any of the elements.
Why keep a logbook?
Uptake changes as corals grow or as you add or remove livestock. A record of weekly measurements and dosages makes it easier to see the trend and adjust your daily dosage.
