Description
Red Sea Reef Spec Carbon
Red Sea Reef Spec Carbon is a filter media carbon for the rapid removal of organic pollutants in marine and reef aquariums. It is made for reefkeepers who want to keep water quality high without adding phosphate or ash to the system.
Key Benefits
- Rapidly removes organic pollutants from marine and reef aquarium water.
- High total adsorption capacity, thanks to its granule size and micro/macroporous structure.
- Targets the specific organic pollutants found in reef aquariums.
- Ultra-low phosphate output, so it leaches very little phosphate into the water.
- Ultra-low ash content.
- Does not affect the pH of aquarium water.
- Needs replacing less often than carbons that are not reef-specific or are of lower quality, which makes it an effective, cost-efficient way to maintain water quality.
Suitable For
- Marine aquariums.
- Reef aquariums.
- Freshwater aquariums.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this carbon in a freshwater aquarium?
Yes. It is suitable for both marine and freshwater aquariums, and it is designed with marine and reef systems in mind.
Will it leach phosphate into my reef tank?
It is designed for ultra-low phosphate output, with a stated phosphate output of 0.000001 g/ml.
Does it change the pH of the aquarium water?
No. It does not affect the pH of aquarium water. The pH of the carbon in distilled water is listed as >8.
What does the granule size and pore structure do?
The flakes measure 0.6 - 2.3 mm. Together with the micro/macroporous structure, they give very high total adsorption capacity and rapid extraction of reef-specific organic pollutants. Small organic molecule adsorption is 1000 mg/g and large organic molecule adsorption is 280 mg/g.
Does it come with a filter bag?
Yes, a filter bag is included.
Which pack size should I choose?
It is available in 250g, 500g and 1000g. The carbon is the same in each, so choose the quantity that suits your filter and your aquarium.
