Description
SCAPE Planted Aquarium - K and Trace 500ml
SCAPE Planted Aquarium - K and Trace 500ml is a liquid fertiliser that supplies potassium and trace elements to aquarium plants in the correct quantity for optimal growth. It suits South African aquascapers and planted-tank hobbyists who want one simple daily dose instead of several separate supplements.
SCAPE developed K and Trace to deliver potassium and trace elements in balanced, measured amounts. Potassium is one of the most heavily used elements in a planted aquarium, so it must be replaced regularly. Pairing it with trace elements in one bottle cuts down on daily dosing steps, saving you both time and money.
Key Benefits
- Supplies potassium and trace elements to aquarium plants in the correct quantity for optimal growth.
- Replaces potassium, one of the elements planted aquariums use up fastest.
- Combines potassium and trace elements in one easy-to-use bottle, so you don't need separate products.
- Saves time and money compared with dosing each element on its own.
- Uses a simple daily routine of one pump (approx. 1 ml) per 50 L of aquarium water.
- Helps you address visible signs of potassium and trace element shortage as part of a regular water-change routine.
How to Use
Dose K and Trace every day at the rate shown below. For best results, do a 30–50% water change every week alongside daily dosing.
Learn to read your plants. Nutrient shortages show up in the leaves, and catching them early makes them easier to correct:
- Potassium deficiency: pinholes form in the leaf. The holes gradually get bigger, and a yellowing area forms around them.
- Calcium (trace element) deficiency: twisted, pale growth.
- Iron (trace element) deficiency: yellow new growth.
- Magnesium (trace element) deficiency: dark leaf veins with light leaf colour.
If you see these symptoms, take these steps:
- Do a 50% water change immediately.
- During the water change, remove dead leaf matter from the bottom of the aquarium.
- Once the aquarium is refilled, start dosing SCAPE K and Trace according to the instructions on the bottle.
- Keep up a 30–50% water change every week for best results.
Dosage
- Add one pump or squirt (approx. 1 ml) of SCAPE K and Trace per 50 L of aquarium water.
- Dose daily.
- Always follow the dosing instructions printed on the bottle.
Suitable For
- Planted freshwater aquariums and aquascapes of any layout.
- Tanks where plants show signs of potassium shortage, such as enlarging pinholes ringed with yellow.
- Tanks where plants show signs of trace element shortage, such as twisted, pale growth, yellow new growth, or dark veins on light-coloured leaves.
- Hobbyists who want a single potassium and trace element supplement for daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much SCAPE K and Trace should I add to my tank?
Add one pump (approx. 1 ml) per 50 L of aquarium water every day. For example, a 100 L tank takes two pumps (approx. 2 ml) daily, and a 200 L tank takes four pumps (approx. 4 ml) daily.
Why do planted aquariums need extra potassium?
Potassium is one of the most heavily used elements in a planted aquarium. Plants use it up steadily, so adding it regularly is vital.
How can I tell if my aquarium plants lack potassium?
Look for pinholes in the leaves. Over time the holes grow larger and a yellowing area forms around them.
What do trace element deficiencies look like?
Each element shows different symptoms:
Calcium: twisted, pale growth.
Iron: yellow new growth.
Magnesium: dark leaf veins with light leaf colour.
My plants already show deficiency symptoms. What should I do first?
Do a 50% water change straight away and remove dead leaf matter from the bottom of the tank. Once the aquarium is refilled, start daily dosing with SCAPE K and Trace as directed on the bottle.
Do I still need to do water changes while using K and Trace?
Yes. A weekly 30–50% water change is recommended alongside daily dosing for best results.
