Shrimps from soft-water habitats are used to water that contains dissolved minerals but almost no carbonate hardness. Dennerle Shrimp King Bee Salt GH+ recreates these natural conditions. It supplies the minerals your shrimps need for balanced growth, vibrant colours and plentiful reproduction without adding carbonate hardness. Dennerle describes its intended use in slightly acidic water, approximately pH 6.0–6.5; always check the actual pH, as source water and substrate also affect it. Bee and bumble bee shrimps, including Crystal Red, Crystal Black and other selectively bred varieties, rely on this kind of water.

How to Use

Use Bee Salt GH+ to remineralise osmosis (RO), rain or purified water for aquarium setup and water changes. Dennerle recommends a starting dose of 2 ml (approximately 1.5 g) per 10 litres of water. Follow the directions on your tub and test GH and conductivity, adjusting the amount for your source water and livestock requirements. Check KH and pH separately; conductivity or TDS alone cannot tell you either value.

Mix the salt into water in a separate container. Let it dissolve, check the water parameters and match the temperature before adding the prepared water to the aquarium. Dose for the replacement water being prepared. Do not routinely add remineralising salt when topping up water lost through evaporation, as dissolved minerals remain in the aquarium.

Can I add Bee Salt GH+ to normal South African tap water?
It is designed for targeted hardening of osmosis water, rainwater and purified water. Tap water in many South African areas already contains minerals and carbonate hardness. For this reason, bee and bumble bee shrimp keepers usually start with RO water and remineralise it with Bee Salt GH+.

Will this salt raise the pH in my shrimp tank?
Bee Salt GH+ increases GH without adding KH. It is intended for soft-water shrimp kept in slightly acidic conditions, around pH 6.0–6.5, but it does not guarantee an exact aquarium pH. Test your source water and tank, because substrate and other aquarium conditions also influence pH.

Is it suitable for Caridina shrimps such as Crystal Reds?
Yes. It was developed especially for soft-water shrimps such as bee and bumble bee shrimps and their varieties, which include Crystal Red and Crystal Black shrimps.

Why does it matter that it doesn't raise KH?
Soft-water bee shrimp are generally kept with very low carbonate hardness. Avoiding added KH helps preserve the buffering capacity of active shrimp substrates. Bee Salt GH+ does not remove KH that is already present in your source water.

Does Bee Salt GH+ help with moulting problems?
It provides minerals in a biologically balanced calcium-magnesium ratio and creates suitable conditions for problem-free moulting. Stable water parameters and regular testing remain important.

Will it harm my plants or filter bacteria?
