Description

Tetra Medica General Tonic Plus 20ml

Tetra Medica General Tonic Plus 20ml is a multi-purpose fish medication for freshwater ornamental fish. It is designed for aquarists dealing with common freshwater fish diseases, including bacterial infections and ectoparasitic diseases such as Costia and freshwater Oodinium. It suits community and single-species freshwater tanks that contain no invertebrates or delicate plants.

Key Benefits

  • Multi-purpose formula designed to treat the most common freshwater ornamental fish diseases, so one product covers several problems
  • Helps with wounds and bacterial infections
  • Helps with ectoparasitic diseases such as Costia and freshwater Oodinium
  • Structured eight-day treatment cycle with application on only three days: Day 1, Day 2 and Day 7
  • Fish stay in the aquarium during treatment, so there is no need to catch or move them. This also stops healthy fish from becoming infected by free-floating pathogens.

How to Use

  • Shake well before use.
  • Make sure the aquarium is well aerated throughout the treatment.
  • Switch off any UV clarifiers and ozone systems for the duration of the treatment.
  • Do not use activated carbon or any other absorbent filter media to filter the water during treatment.
  • Where possible, clean the filter properly before you start.
  • Do not remove any fish during treatment.
  • Dispense the product evenly into the aquarium in the amounts shown under Dosage.

Dosage

The treatment cycle lasts eight days:

  • Day 1: 30 drops (1.5 ml) per 100 l of aquarium water. Do not feed the fish.
  • Day 2: 15 drops (0.75 ml) per 100 l of aquarium water. Do not feed the fish.
  • Days 3 to 6: No application. Feed as normal.
  • Day 7: 30 drops (1.5 ml) per 100 l of aquarium water. Do not feed the fish.
  • Day 8: No application. Feed as normal. Carry out a partial water change of 30–50%.

After Treatment: After the partial water change, activated carbon is recommended to filter the water. If no clear improvement is seen, repeat treatment is recommended after about 2 weeks. Any water discolouration is caused by the active substance and will disappear after a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a treatment cycle last?
The cycle runs for eight days, with product added on Day 1, Day 2 and Day 7. Days 3 to 6 and Day 8 have no application.

How much do I add per 100 litres?
Add 30 drops (1.5 ml) on Day 1, 15 drops (0.75 ml) on Day 2 and 30 drops (1.5 ml) on Day 7, each per 100 l of aquarium water. Dispense it evenly into the tank.

Should I take the fish out of the tank while treating?
No. Leave all fish in the aquarium so that healthy fish are not later infected by free-floating pathogens.

Can I feed my fish during treatment?
Do not feed on Days 1, 2 and 7, when the product is added. On Days 3 to 6 and Day 8, feed as normal.

Can I keep my carbon filter and UV clarifier running?
No. Switch off UV clarifiers and ozone systems, and do not use activated carbon or other absorbent filter media during treatment. Once the eight days are over and you have done a 30–50% partial water change, activated carbon is recommended.

Why has my water changed colour?
The discolouration comes from the active substance. It disappears after a few days.

Can I use it in a tank with shrimp, snails or delicate plants?
No. It is not suitable for invertebrates or delicate plant species such as hornwort.

What if my fish do not improve?
If there is no clear improvement, repeat the treatment after about 2 weeks.
