Description

Red Sea Reef Mature Pro Kit

Red Sea Reef Mature Pro Kit is a marine aquarium conditioner programme for anyone setting up a new reef tank. It guides you through a 21-day maturation process that establishes colonies of nitrifying and anoxic bacteria and promotes the growth of coralline algae and microfauna, so the system is better prepared for long-term success.

Key Benefits

  • Goes beyond basic cycling: standard cycling establishes aerobic nitrifying bacteria that convert toxic waste products to nitrate, and this programme also establishes anoxic bacteria (de-nitrifying and phosphate harbouring, or PHB, bacteria).
  • Completes the biological maturation of a new artificial reef in a structured 21-day programme.
  • Provides the conditions that promote the growth of coralline algae and other microfauna found in live rock and within a sand bed.
  • Results in a fully matured system that is biologically ready for stocking all animals, including delicate SPS corals.
  • Includes all the supplements you need to mature the system.

How to Use

The programme is a complete step-by-step plan, and its manual gives detailed daily instructions for the full 21 days. A detailed explanation of the biological processes involved, plus tips for implementing the Reef Mature programme, can be found on the Red Sea website.

  • Follow the daily instructions in the manual from start to finish.
  • Do not add any other supplements or livestock (dead or alive) until advised to do so as part of the programme.
  • Use accurate test kits to measure pH, KH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate throughout. Red Sea's Marine Care Test Kit covers all of these tests at the level of accuracy the programme requires.

Suitable For

  • Newly set up marine aquariums and reef tanks.
  • Reefkeepers who want a fully matured system before introducing sensitive animals such as SPS corals.
  • Aquarists seeding live rock, substrate and bio-media in a new tank.

What Each Component Does

  • Nitro Bac: a concentrated blend of nitrifying and de-nitrifying bacteria spores that seeds the live rock, substrate and bio-media in a new tank.
  • Bacto-Start: a balanced blend of nitrogen and phosphorus components that simulate the natural waste products of an active aquarium, enabling controlled development of aerobic and anoxic bacteria.
  • NO3:PO4-X: a unique complex of carbons and other organic bonded elements used by anoxic bacteria for accurate control of algae nutrient (nitrate and phosphate) levels.
  • KH-Coralline Gro: a concentrated marine buffer complex, fortified with specific minor and trace elements that promote the growth of coralline algae and other beneficial microfauna.

Specifications

  • Programme length: 21 days
  • Parameters to test: pH, KH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate
  • Coralline algae and microfauna will only develop if they are introduced to the system, for example on live rock.

  • Nitro Bac
  • Bacto-Start

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Reef Mature programme take?
The complete reef maturation programme runs for 21 days, with daily instructions provided in the manual.

Do I need any other supplements?
No. The kit includes all the supplements needed to mature the system. Do not add any other supplements until the programme advises it.

Can I add fish or corals while the programme is running?
No. Do not add any livestock, dead or alive, until advised to do so as part of the programme. Once it is complete, the system is biologically ready for stocking all animals, including delicate SPS corals.

Which test kits do I need?
The programme requires accurate tests for pH, KH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Red Sea's Marine Care Test Kit includes all of these at the appropriate level of accuracy.

How is this different from normal cycling?
Cycling typically establishes aerobic nitrifying bacteria that convert toxic waste products to nitrate. This programme also establishes anoxic bacteria (de-nitrifying and phosphate harbouring) and provides conditions that promote coralline algae and microfauna growth.

Will the kit grow coralline algae on its own?
No. Coralline algae and microfauna will only develop if they are introduced to the system, such as on live rock. The kit provides the conditions that promote their growth.
